The Free-Range Waist Pack is 17" wide WITHOUT the strap attached. Sizes of straps listed are from the smallest the strap goes to the longest. You need to add the length of the strap you choose to the 17" bag size to get the usable measurement of the bag with strap.

For reference:

S-M fits waists 30"-41"

L-XL fits waists 35"-51"

Curvy Girl fits waists 40"-60"

Keep in mind, if you want to wear it as a sling, and have a larger chest, you may want to go up a size for your strap as long as your waist fits somewhere within the guidelines above. The sizes overlap, meaning, for example, if your waist is 36"so you wear a small, you could also wear a large tightened all the way up on you waist but have an extra 15" of give to wear as a sling.
